It’s no secret that one of the most challenging components of any repairs – walls. Of course, stick to them or cover the wallpaper with paint is not too difficult. But here is the preparatory stage (alignment of the walls, removing old wallpaper, plastering) can spoil the nerves of anyone. If so time-consuming process is not for you, we suggest that decorate the walls with decorative panels. Especially because of its aesthetic characteristics are not inferior to above mentioned materials
The choice of wall decorative panels in construction shops in the city is truly impressive. Want to products from MDF board or HDF? Receive and sign! Interested in panels on hardboard? Please, choose, like more: imitation light oak, ash, “Provence”, Mahogany, Spanish marble, tile and even … rock! Want to keep up to date? Then pay attention to the plastic decorative panels or products made of natural bamboo …
Stop! Before you admire the colors and textures of finishing material, a good idea to learn how to do it, whether he is strong and how much, after all, is – our readers cry and be completely right. So, first things first.
The image of wood
We begin, perhaps, with panels of wood-plate materials (DPM), derived from waste wood industry. But please, do not be afraid of the word “waste”, because in this case it is a small chip, the fibers of wood raw material, etc.
The panels can be perforated, have a different texture and color.
Panels of this type consist of a base made of plywood, hardboard, fibreboard panels, MDF or HDF (about the features of these materials, we will explain later), and the top decorative cover – paper, film, veneer, etc.
The design of panels of PDM can be quite varied. However, given that, in essence, they are more democratic alternative to the costly production of an array (of which we describe later), manufacturers try to execute them “under the tree.” Moreover, the similarity with the natural wood is achieved not only by using special decorative coatings (eg, veneer), but also through milling of finished products.
The latter procedure allows a sort of “split” one-piece sheet into separate boards (at least visually). However, in addition to the traditional, beloved by many of the pattern “under the tree,” there are other design options for the panels – “Marble”, “a granite” or an abstract pattern. Color options may be the most improbable (”pink pine,” “green oak”, “metallic”, “blue ice”, etc.).
Dictionary LS
Laminating – facing surface of the plate (MDF, MDF, HDF) decorative paper (film), impregnated with resin under pressure followed by curing of the adhesive layer in various ways, but without using the hot process.
Laminating – facing surface of the plate with decorative paper (film) impregnated with resin, the method of hot pressing, in which the fibers of paper plates and penetrate each other.
Now let’s dwell in detail on the varieties of wood-board materials.
Fiberboard (fibreboard) – sheets, produced in the process of hot pressing weight of wood fibers, formed into a mat. These fibers are produced by steaming and grinding of raw wood. MDF – a material is light, has a lower density compared with other types of wood-board materials.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) – hardboard average density. MDF emerged as a result of improved production of fiberboard. Better quality is achieved by grinding the fiber and the uniformity of application of improved binders.
The panels are made of MDF have a high strength: they are securely hold screws and nails, and well handled by conventional tools. These wall panels can be used in a variety of rooms – kitchens, hallways, attics, and even bathrooms. Trim panel film, using the technology of lamination (see Glossary). At the St. Petersburg market are mostly domestically produced MDF panels (PG “Soyuz”, “Petroprofil”).
Bamboo – the environmentally friendly material that is not afraid of water, do not fade in the sun, does not separate.
HDF (High Density Fiberboard) – hardboard of high density, with characteristics similar to melamine. Panels of this material is very durable, they can finish large areas.
Wall panels are engaged on the basis of HDF, as a rule, the western companies. In great demand among consumers today enjoy the perforated panel of Italian factory Locatelli. Such items can be attached to a crate of scrap materials (wood block, galvanized profiles for drywall), or the plastic profile (for example, German Henke). Panel cut conventional hacksaw.
The range of Locatelli have panels without finish Grezzo, which can be painted with oil-based paint or automotive paint. There are also samples of finished manufactured with lamination finished with veneer or foil paper aluminum, etc. Disadvantages of HDF panels are as follows. First, they are not recommended for use in wet areas. Second, before finishing wall panels HDF-have to prepare as well as through holes punched in the products may to some extent be seen on surface defects (depending on the degree of openness of the perforation). A simple solution is to decorating the space between the wall panel and black material (paper, paint, fabric), which, incidentally, will highlight the beauty of the panels.
With perforated panels can give the interior eastern flavor.
Hardboard – a kind of fiberboard, which is used in the manufacture of fibers more coarse and medium quality binders. Gets off, usually only one side of the sheet. This material is used as the basis for U.S. manufacturers of panels (in particular, the company ABT & Co). In St. Petersburg, such products are brought by “Leopard-Story” and the “Eaglet”.
Plywood – thin slice of wood with a thickness of 0.6 to 3 mm. Plywood of 3 mm thick is used as the basis for US-made panels (eg, Chesapeake).
Finally a few words about the panels, made from valuable types of wood (oak, beech, juniper, boxwood, walnut, mahogany, etc.). These products are found on the market is much less than the panel of PDM or, especially plastic. About their benefits and have nothing to say, refined look, a natural “heat”, environmentally friendly – these are just the basic qualities of wood panels. Moreover, despite the traditional nature of this material, decorative panels of the array can be designed in any style, from classic to modern, allowing for the interior and its environment.
Perforated panels are often used as a decorative screen for the radiator.
The only drawback – too high a price. Although if you’re not low on money, such “plates” will undoubtedly be a valuable asset. Among the manufacturers of an array of panels is worth noting the company “Stroymaster” and “TFF SEYPRIS.”
In addition, the St. Petersburg market are bamboo panel of Dutch firms Rodeka, which has its own production in Southeast Asia. They are made by hand from a split bamboo fiber, then pressed in several layers under the influence of temperature with the addition of acrylic glue. Bamboo – the environmentally friendly material that is not afraid of water, do not fade in the sun, not stratified (of course, careful care). Such panels can be fastened with screws even.
By the way, this summer, St. Petersburg company Intek, now specializes in supplying exotic wall panels, including bamboo, is going to engage in the manufacture of shield panels with bamboo trim. “Substrate” will be made of particle board and decorative layer – made of bamboo.
